Calvin’s daughter, Bacon meets Hobbes for the first time.

This is amazing and you should go read it right now. The dudes behind the Pants Are Overrated webcomic made a pretty touching comic set 26 years after the last panel of the final Calvin & Hobbes strip. In this homage, Calvin passes his stuffed tiger/imaginary friend Hobbes onto his daughter named (awesomely) Bacon.

Calvin and Hobbes is basically the best thing ever, it’s one of my most prominent influences. So, after seeing some of the fan art that was out there of what Calvin would be like when he was an adult, I thought that it would be cool to flesh it out more. So, this is me trying to be as faithful to the source material as I could – of course, I’m no Watterson, but I think I did ok. As for why someone would name their daughter Bacon?   Well, my niece acquired the nickname Bacon over the years, and Francis Bacon was another old philosopher along with Calvin and Hobbes, so it seemed like a good name – plus, if anyone would name his daughter Bacon, it would be Calvin.

HESHER is coming out May 13!  I loved making this movie, and I love how it turned out.  It’s hilarious, but it’s not just funny, it’s smart, it’s sad, it’s hopeful, it’s heartfelt, and it fuckin rocks.  Natalie decided to produce Spencer’s script for a reason, and by the way her character’s nothing like you’ve seen her.  Devin, the protagonist, is a truly talented young actor.  Rainn gave a legit no-joke badass dramatic performance.  And, I’m humbled to say, Metallica themselves liked it so much they gave us their music, they never give their stuff to movies!

Now this really is an “indie” film, meaning it’s being independently released without any huge corporations behind the marketing and advertising and all that jazz.  500 Days of Summer had that “indie” spirit, but it was put out by Fox Searchlight who has tons of resources to spread the word.  HESHER’s just got us.  So pass it around!

JustLauraHere has a “30 Days of JBone” thing going on her blog.  So far we’re up to day 3, but day 2’s selection, the one I have linked here, is definitely my favorite!  In fact, it’s my favorite pic of him at the moment, although the picture isn’t new.  (I hadn’t seen it before.)  The next 27 days are going to be better than usual :)

I just haven’t figured out this tumblr thing yet.  I want to post here; I love my little layout.  I guess I need to follow some friends and see what they use theirs for….
